The UK Ship Register Part 1 (British Register of Ships) is for larger and commercially oriented vessels that must display official identity markings to a higher standard than recreational SSR craft. Those markings are typically carved into the hull or otherwise permanently affixed — not applied as peel-and-stick vinyl.
Ordinary vinyl is not a compliant replacement for official Part 1 carving/marking requirements.

Permanence required
Part 1 marking rules expect permanence and official form — carved letters, welded plates, or other lasting methods approved for the register.
Right material, wrong use
ORAFOL vinyl is excellent for SSR, CRT, Thames names and decorative lettering, but it is not a substitute for Part 1 carving or official plates.
We won’t mislead you
Selling “Part 1 vinyl stickers” would risk owners thinking a sticker meets register requirements. We will not do that.

No. Part 1 official markings are not something we replace with ordinary vinyl. Contact the MCA / UK Ship Register for official marking requirements.
What is the difference between Part 1 and SSR?
Part 1 is the main UK Ship Register for many larger or commercial vessels, with stricter official marking rules. The Small Ships Register (SSR / Part 3) is commonly used by recreational craft and generally allows painted or affixed markings such as marine vinyl.
Can I use vinyl for Part 1 carved markings?
